in the past 10 years i have continuously told myself, “i really should update my website”- but have always felt unsure what the most practical way to do this is. i’ve had false starts, where the thrust quickly dissipates as more pressing matters come up- faced with months, then years, of cumulutive updates to consider, i’d lose steam and focus on something else.
in march 2025 we moved to a new room, and for the first time in half a year had time to devote to things other than our housing situation. after getting settled in at the new place, my routine stabilized enough, we did some commissions, and had enough money saved we didn’t have to focus on commission work as much for a couple months- i started thinking about what new projects i’d like to be working on with my new-found free time. with no existing major projects hanging over me, i realized it might be a perfect time to go ahead and finally update my website to collect all the existing stuff i’d made in the last 10 years, some of which wasn’t even available online any more.
open the web_contents folder and look around. starting from
index.html is always a safe bet. the old site’s front page
remains unchanged, but click on the doors, and inside a new
structure has been constructed atop the original halls.
HALL.HTML:this was the first thing i made for my new site, not totally new, but expanding on the ruins of the old. so far it adds a few icons along with the architecture- a globe, a canvas, a book- which lead to categories of new pages. games, art, and writing respectively, although these are categorized loosely. from here i would like to populate the environs with skittering pre-rendered creatures, crawling insect-like across its halls and canopies, each body containing a link. soon, a thousand icons leading to ever more convoluted categories, twisting back in on themselves before leading nowhere. click a door and a funny animal will pop out and say boo. click an animal and you will be taken to a detailed graph of its internal organs, which you may freely scroll about. click its stomach, and explore the contents. this is my dream of a future website.
GAMES.HTML - ART.HTML - WRITING.HTML:the beginnings of my new archive. a veritable labyrinth of pages which will never be completed, each end implying a further possible page. i would like each game to include written notes detailing its development, development screenshots, comments on its relation to the others- carving ever deeper into the carcass, new creatures are found, gestating from the putrid slime of its forebearer. will this ever happen? who knows, but there’s a new unposted page of Bessttsy’s City, if you can find it. some forum posts, diary entries, a whole collection of short stories- drawings posted on a deviantart account with 40 followers, pleasantly whimsical scribbles, a few images which are nice to look at - and at least the outline of pages for the games. i have focused mostly on the graphics so far, so once all the flashy presentation is complete, i can just dump the countless raw materials into place and continue stretching it out, forever.
the pages listed here are most of what i got done in those couple months, with zoe’s amazing help on making the template. after those couple months i needed to take on more commissions, and along with an intensifying conflict with our landlord, have not managed to have peace to focus on it since. on the off-chance we manage to settle down and find another boring apartment to laze around in another 5 years, i would love to come back to it and materialize all the ambient thoughts i’ve had about where to take the base of the new site i’ve included here.
